Hi, I’m Ali, the founder of Ali James Skin Care. I'm a teacher, stepmom, skincare lover, and a regular woman navigating perimenopause, one day (and serum) at a time. I love learning about ingredients and apparently now need reading glasses to decipher the labels. Welcome to Fine Lines & Fine Print.

That’s me on my “yacht”, also known as a pontoon boat rental on Lake Mission Viejo. Very exclusive. You’ll notice my beverage of choice is a Diet Coke, because apparently I’ve reached the stage of life where a cocktail comes with a five-day hangover, so no thank you...I have things to do.

I created this space to share practical skincare tips, explain what ingredients actually do, and talk honestly about caring for skin through perimenopause and beyond. The educator in me loves making things easier to understand, because figuring out your skin shouldn’t feel like another full-time job. I may also complain about perimenopause in general, including the surprise rage that has me wondering how a perfectly lovely person chewing a sandwich just became the motive in my imaginary murder trial.

My background includes esthetics, education and skincare sales, but I’m also here as a woman experiencing these changes myself. I love products, and I love to layer, but I need to see and feel a difference to keep it up. A little luxury makes the routine enjoyable; seeing results keeps me consistent. My skincare can be fancy even if my yacht is due back by four.

Expect a little ingredient talk, a little hormonal commentary, and plenty of real-life perspective. We can take our skincare seriously and still have a sense of humor about it.
